Praystead — Privacy Policy

Overview

Praystead is a prayer journal and discipleship companion. This page explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and who it is shared with. We collect the minimum data needed to run the app and never sell your data to third parties.

Account data

When you create an account we store your email address and authentication credentials with our database provider, Supabase. This is used solely to sign you in and identify your data.

Prayer content

Private prayers and journal entries are encrypted in your browser before upload. For convenient same-device access, the account content key is stored in this browser's IndexedDB and may be mirrored in tab-scoped session storage while unlocked. An optional passphrase and recovery code can wrap that key for recovery on another device. The passphrase, recovery code, and raw key are not sent to Supabase.

Community prayer content is encrypted under a group key distributed to current group members. Members can read content shared with their group. Removing a member rotates the key for future content, but cannot make historical content or keys already received disappear from that person's devices. Encryption does not protect content from malicious code running in an unlocked app or from someone controlling your device.

AI-assisted features (optional)

Praystead can offer AI-generated guidance and scripture suggestions using Anthropic's Claude API. This feature is opt-in: we ask for your explicit consent before ever sending anything to the AI. When you consent, only the specific information needed for the selected task is decrypted in your browser and sent through our authenticated proxy to Anthropic. The proxy accepts only approved structured tasks, applies size and usage limits, and does not log prayer text. AI use is never automatic, and you can withdraw consent at any time in Settings.

Scripture content

Bible verse text may be fetched from the YouVersion API (where enabled) and cached to reduce repeated requests. AI is not used as an authoritative source of Scripture text.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, we store a push notification subscription (via the standard Web Push protocol) used only to deliver the reminders you configure. You can disable this at any time in your device or browser settings.

Feedback

If you submit feedback through the in-app feedback form, the message you write is stored so we can read and act on it. Only submit information you're comfortable sharing with the Praystead team.

Analytics

We use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights to understand aggregate usage and performance (e.g. which pages are used, load times). This data is anonymized and not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

Donations

The in-app donation link takes you to an external PayPal page. Praystead does not process, see, or store any payment or card information.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We use the following service providers (sub-processors) to run the app:

• Supabase — database, authentication, storage
• Anthropic — AI guidance, only for content you consent to send
• Vercel — hosting and aggregate analytics
• YouVersion — scripture text, where enabled

Your rights

You can delete your prayers, testimonies, or account at any time from within the app. To request a full export or deletion of your data, or ask any question about this policy, contact us at arthur.meteng@gmail.com.

Delete your account and data

You can permanently delete your Praystead account at any time:

• In the app: go to Settings → Account and tap "Delete account". This immediately and permanently deletes your account, your prayers and testimonies (including encrypted private content), and any group memberships.
• By email: if you can't access the app, send a deletion request from your account's email address to arthur.meteng@gmail.com. We will confirm and complete the deletion within 30 days.

Deleting your account removes your profile, private and shared prayers, testimonies, notification subscriptions, and any other personal data associated with your account from our systems. Content you previously shared with a community or group may remain visible to that group unless you request its removal separately.

Children

Praystead is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date.
